This is where I live...

That title was for all you company people!! Anyway, here are some pictures of my new place.

Entryway

This is the entry way and breakfast nook! Notice the basket of slippers...It is rude to wear your shoes in peoples homes so you must provide slippers for all of your guests.

Entryway2

This is more of the Entry way that leads to the stairs that go up to the loft and to the right of that is another bedroom and both the kitchen and the pantry.

Kitchen

Here is the kitchen. To the left is the refrigerator with the microwave on top. On the counter you see our oven and next to that is our washing machine...yes...I wash my clothes in the kitchen!

   Pantry

This is our pantry. Not much to say...other than, you see that water cooler? We have that water delivered four things at a time and one man carries them up 6 flights of stairs all by himself!!

Livingroom2

This is our living room. We have a nice view of bars and the building next door.

Bathroom

Obviously, this is the bathroom. This one is extra special because it has a tub!! Most showers here do not have tubs so the water covers the floor and after every shower you have to mop up the mess.

North view

The prison like view out our living room!

South view

The view of our courtyard. Check out that green grass!

My Building

This is my apartment building!

Gate to Apartment

This is the gate to my apartment building. A man sits in that little white booth 24/7. Oh, and under that blue sign is my dry cleaner!! Super close!! Super cheap!! Super cool!!

Ke ji lu

This is the street I live on and it leads me all the way to this.....

Starbucks

People say that it is going to open in November!!! Those who know me, know that I prefer Caribou Coffee to that of Starbucks, but when you are so far from home anything will do! Plus it has the real coffee shop feel unlike all the others here, and there is no smoking!!!

Well folks, that is it for now. I hope you have enjoyed the mini tour. Pictures of my room are to come...I still have a ton to do before I will let you see it. Get excited for some pretty awesome before and after shots.

I Love Borders Rewards!!

So its 3 for 2 for people with Borders Rewards Cards right now and I could not be happier. (That is a lie...I would be much happier if I was at 100% with my support!) My friend Sarah and I went to check out all of the books and had a blast. First of all, Sarah has been recommending the book Ahab's Wife to me for over a year now and it was one of the books in the selection. So I was convince that I had to find two more books. This was not hard for me because I love to read. There were so many books I wanted to get but I had to pace myself and as you know the deal is 3 for 2 not 10 for 5.

Both Sarah and I decided that it would be awesome if we could just read for a living! You know, wake up in the morning grab a comfy seat at your coffee shop of choice and just read! Oh, some of you might not know this about me but if I walk into a coffee shop and all of the comfy seats are taken I walk right back out and go to another coffee shop. I don't mess around when it comes to seating. When I go to a coffee shop I am there for a long time and my butt would fall asleep in one of those hard chairs.

So, in the end I walked out with the following books...

Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See

Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi

Going Up North...

Warning!!! Debit cards have not made it north! I shouldn't be surprised but I am! My brother and I stopped at Wendy's on our way up to the cabin and when I handed the girl my card she promptly told me they only took cash, to which I replied....What?!?! Where am I!?!? Are you kidding me?!?! Where is the sign?!?! You would think if they only took cash they would inform you before you made your order, but NO! So then I had to go across the street to the gas station ATM. And do you know when I came back for my food they had thrown it out?!?! She said most people don't come back so they usually have to throw out the order. I was like...if I knew it was a race I would have run over the kids that were on a field trip to get here!

So, we finally got to the cabin and had a great time. We went Kayaking and guess what?!?! I didn't almost die! Most of you might not know this but every time I have gone Kayaking I have almost died (okay, this might be an exaggeration). Both of these instances took place in Thailand (who knew open sea kayaking was only for extreme practitioners?) and I am sure that had something to do with it. But I have to say nothing beats being rescued by a very attractive Austrian!

The last notable thing that happened up north was when I discovered a huge ant in my cereal bowl, chucked him off the side of the porch and continued eating! Ha! Does that make me weird?

The Prophet

When I was a Junior in College I was obsessed with the writings of Kahlil Gibran. In his book The Prophet people are seeking the prophets advice on the following subjects Love, Marriage, Children, Giving, Eating and Drinking, Work, Joy and Sorrow, Houses, Clothes, Buying and Selling, Crime and Punishment, Laws, Freedom, Reason and Passion, Pain, Self-Knowledge, Teaching, Friendship, Talking, Time, Good and Evil, Prayer, Pleasure, Beauty, Religion, and Death.

None of them impressed me more than the thoughts about Joy and Sorrow.... so here they are. I hope you enjoy!

Then a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow.

And he answered:

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.

And how else can it be?

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.

Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?

And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."

But I say unto you, they are inseparable.

Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.

Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.

When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his sliver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.
